Hüseyin Gündüz

He was born in Kayseri. He learned the naskhi and riqa scripts from Prof.Dr.Muhittin Serin between 1976 and 1984.He exercised the thuluth and naskhi scripts under the supervision of Hamid Aytaç between 1976-1982 and received his idjazat (diploma) in 1980. Afterwards, he has taken courses on the nastaliq from Kemal Batanay .He graduated from the Faculty of Theology of the Marmara University in 1984.Between 1980 and 1987, he worked with Prof. Emin Barın on the fineness and details of the art of calligraphy, calligraphic studies,the kufic and deevani scripts and calligraphic restoration. He took up his duty as a research assistant in the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts at the section of Calligraphic Arts of Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in 1985. He completed the program of proficiency in art with his graduation studies titled ‘Comparison of Şeyh Hamdullah and Ahmed Karahisari Schools’ in 1988 and ‘Aesthetics Elements of The Art of Calligraphy’ in 1984.He became an assistant professor in 1996 and he was appointed as the head of the Main Branch of Calligraphic Arts in the same year. Meanwhile,he exercised the nastaliq and the djeli deevani scripts under the supervision of Prof.Dr. Ali Alparslan. He is still an assistant professor at Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts. The artist whose works are currently in the collection of various museums and private collections continues to produce beautiful art works and restore calligraphic works. The calligrapher has written several articles on the art of calligraphy and two books entitled ‘Dancing Letters’ and ‘ Hilye-i Şerîfe’.
